Planning a proposal at Broadway Tower?
If you're looking for somewhere with incredible Cotswolds views, beautiful sunset light and the option to create a completely private moment, Broadway Tower is a pretty special place to ask the biggest question of your life.
I recently had the pleasure of photographing a surprise proposal at the top of Broadway Tower for Cody and Lois, and this one was genuinely unforgettable.
Cody got in touch with me all the way from Australia around a month before the proposal. He and Lois were visiting the Cotswolds and he wanted to make sure the moment was as special and memorable as possible.
Most importantly, Lois couldn't have a clue.
So we planned everything carefully behind the scenes.
From the timing to where I would be waiting, Cody and I had thought it all through.
Planning a surprise proposal at Broadway Tower
One of the things that makes Broadway Tower such a beautiful proposal location is the setting.
The tower sits above the surrounding Cotswolds countryside, giving you incredible views in every direction.
The grounds are open to the public, but Cody wanted something much more private for the proposal itself.
So he arranged to hire the top of Broadway Tower between 4pm and 5pm, giving them complete privacy around sunset.
It was the perfect plan.
While Lois thought they were simply visiting Broadway Tower, I was already waiting at the top, ready to photograph the moment without giving anything away.
This is one of my favourite parts of photographing surprise proposals.
Everything looks completely normal from the outside.
But behind the scenes, there's a whole plan happening.
The perfect surprise
The team at Broadway Tower had also helped make the moment even more special by arranging for a beautiful bouquet of flowers to be waiting at the top.
Cody and Lois arrived at the tower and had a little look around at the incredible views.
And then it happened.
Cody got down on one knee!!!
It was such a beautiful moment to photograph, and having the entire top of the tower to themselves made it feel incredibly personal.
And can we talk about that ring?!
Seriously.
It was incredible.
Photographing the proposal
Once Lois had said yes and they'd had a chance to take everything in, we captured a few photographs together at the top of the tower.
Those first few minutes after a proposal are some of my favourite photographs to take.
There's still so much excitement.
The smiles are completely genuine, everything feels a little surreal and the couple are just enjoying the fact that they've actually got engaged.
There's no need for complicated posing.
It's simply about letting them enjoy the moment and documenting it naturally.
Sunset portraits around Broadway Tower
After we'd captured the proposal and celebrated for a little while, we headed outside onto the Broadway Tower grounds for some evening portraits.
And wow!
The combination of the tower, the Cotswolds countryside and the evening sun made the perfect backdrop for some seriously beautiful photographs.
This is another reason I love combining proposal photography with a short couple's shoot afterwards. You've already captured the big moment, but then you get to slow everything down.
You can walk around together, take in the views and have photographs taken while you're still buzzing from the fact that you're officially engaged.
It turns the proposal into more than just one photograph.
You get an entire little story from the evening.
Why Broadway Tower is such a special proposal location
If you're considering proposing in the Cotswolds, Broadway Tower is definitely worth putting on your list.
The views alone make it spectacular, but there's something particularly special about being up at the top of the tower with the countryside stretching out around you.
And if you want complete privacy, arranging exclusive access to the top gives you the opportunity to have the moment almost entirely to yourselves.
For a surprise proposal, that can make a huge difference.
Instead of worrying about people walking past or accidentally getting in the way, you can concentrate on the person you're about to ask to marry you.
Then afterwards, you can head outside and explore the grounds together for photographs.
Thinking about proposing at Broadway Tower?
If you're travelling to the Cotswolds and thinking about proposing at Broadway Tower, I'd recommend planning the details in advance.
You don't necessarily need an elaborate setup.
Sometimes the simplest proposals are the most meaningful.
What matters is getting the timing right, knowing where you want the proposal to happen and making sure there is a plan for capturing the moment without your partner knowing.
That's where having a proposal photographer can make things much easier.
I'll work with you beforehand to understand exactly what you're planning and where I need to be.
On the day, I'll arrive early, get into position and stay completely out of sight until the moment happens.
Then, once you've had your moment, we can head outside for some relaxed photographs together.

A proposal you'll never forget
Cody and Lois's Broadway Tower proposal was one of those evenings I'll remember for a long time.
A proposal planned from the other side of the world.
A completely unsuspecting girlfriend.
A private top of the tower experience.
A beautiful bouquet waiting at the top.
An incredible ring.
And then an evening spent exploring the grounds and celebrating their engagement.
It really doesn't get much better.
If you're planning your own proposal at Broadway Tower, I'd love to help you make it just as memorable.
And if you're thinking you've left it too late to book a photographer, don't assume I'm unavailable.

You might be surprised. 🤍
