Where To Propose In The Cotswolds
If you’re thinking about proposing in the Cotswolds, you’ve already made a very good decision.
Rolling hills, quiet villages, honey coloured stone… it’s easily one of the most romantic places in the UK to ask one of the biggest questions of your life. And the best part? There are so many incredible spots to choose from, whether you want something iconic or completely private.
I’ve been lucky enough to photograph proposals all across the Cotswolds, so I thought I’d share some of my favourite locations to help you find the perfect place.
Broadway Tower Proposal
Broadway Tower is one of the most iconic proposal locations in the Cotswolds, and for good reason. The views stretch for miles across the countryside, and it gives you that proper “wow” moment without needing loads of planning.
It works especially well at sunrise or sunset when it’s a bit quieter and the light is unreal. If you’re thinking about a surprise proposal, this is a great option because you can keep things really relaxed — just a walk up to the tower, taking in the view… and then the moment happens.
I’ve photographed proposals here where everything just feels effortless. No pressure, no big setup, just a genuinely beautiful moment in an incredible place.
Bourton-on-the-Water Proposal
If you’re after something that feels classic Cotswolds, Bourton-on-the-Water is a perfect choice. With its little stone bridges, flowing river, and postcard views everywhere you look, it’s one of the most romantic villages in the area. It does get busy, but if you time it right (early morning is always best), it can feel surprisingly peaceful.
A proposal here feels relaxed and natural. A slow walk along the river, taking it all in, and then the moment happens without it feeling forced.
It’s simple, beautiful, and always works.
Miserden Garden Proposal, Stroud
Miserden Garden is one of those hidden gems that feels a bit more private and tucked away.
Located near Stroud, it offers something slightly different - beautifully kept gardens, long pathways, and incredible views across the valley. It feels calm, quiet, and really intimate, which makes it perfect for a proposal.
If you’re looking for something a little less busy but still stunning, this is such a good option. You can wander through the gardens, find a quiet spot, and have a moment that feels completely your own.
It’s understated in the best way.
Painswick Church Proposal
Painswick Church is one of the most unique spots in the Cotswolds.
Surrounded by its famous 99 yew trees, it has such a peaceful, almost timeless feel to it. It’s quiet, full of character, and perfect if you’re looking for something a little different from the usual countryside views.
There’s something really special about proposing somewhere like this. It feels calm, meaningful, and a bit more personal.
It’s ideal if you want a setting that’s beautiful but slightly more tucked away.
Westonbirt Arboretum Proposal
If you love nature, Westonbirt Arboretum is an incredible place to propose.
With its tree lined paths, seasonal colours, and endless little pockets of space, it gives you so many options to create a moment that feels completely your own.
Autumn here is unreal, but honestly, it works all year round.
It’s perfect if you want something relaxed and outdoorsy, where you can just wander, take it all in, and let the moment happen naturally.
A Private Countryside Proposal in the Cotswolds
The Cotswolds is full of quiet fields, rolling hills, and hidden spots where you can have a completely private moment together. No crowds, no distractions, just the two of you.
This works really well if you’re planning something more personal or if you’re a bit nervous about proposing in a busy place.
Some of my favourite Cotswolds locations are:
Crickley Hill Country Park, Cheltenham
Robinswood Hill, Gloucester
Painswick Beacon, Stroud
Some of my favourite proposals have been in the middle of nowhere — just a couple, a view, and a moment that’s completely theirs.
Tips for Planning Your Cotswolds Proposal
A few simple things can make a big difference:
Timing is everything – sunrise or weekday mornings are always quieter
Think about the light – soft morning or evening light will make everything look even better
Have a loose plan – but don’t overthink it
And if you’re planning a surprise proposal, having someone there to capture it without being obvious makes all the difference.
Every proposal is different, and that’s what makes them so special. Whether you go for somewhere iconic like Broadway Tower, somewhere full of charm like Bourton-on-the-Water, or something more tucked away like Miserden or Painswick, the most important thing is that it feels like you.
If you’re planning a proposal in the Cotswolds and want it captured in a relaxed, natural way (without it feeling staged or awkward), I’d love to hear your plans and help you make it happen.
