Broadway Proposal Photographer | A Surprise Proposal in the Cotswolds
As a proposal photographer in the Cotswolds, I get to witness some incredibly special moments.
But every now and then, a proposal comes along that feels even more meaningful.
This was one of those proposals.
When Josh first got in touch, he knew he wanted to propose to his girlfriend, Julia, during their week long trip to the Cotswolds.
What made it even more special was that he already knew exactly where he wanted to do it.
A bench in Broadway.
Not just any bench.
The bench where they first said "I love you" to each other.
The moment he told me the story, I knew this proposal was going to be something special.
Why Broadway is One of the Most Romantic Places to Propose in the Cotswolds
Broadway is often described as one of the most beautiful villages in the Cotswolds.
With its honey coloured stone buildings, picturesque streets and surrounding countryside, it's easy to see why so many couples fall in love with the area.
For visitors exploring the Cotswolds, Broadway offers everything people imagine when they think of an English countryside escape.
But for Josh and Julia, Broadway meant much more than that.
It wasn't just a beautiful location.
It was part of their story.
And that made it the perfect place for a surprise proposal.
Planning the Perfect Broadway Proposal
One of the biggest advantages of booking a proposal photographer is having someone help plan the moment from start to finish.
Josh and I spent time talking through every detail.
The timing.
The route.
The setup.
The lighting.
The proposal location.
Everything.
We decided golden hour would give us the most beautiful light and create the perfect atmosphere for the proposal.
The plan was simple.
Josh and Julia would spend the evening taking a walk around Broadway, revisiting places that held memories from previous trips together.
A memory walk.
The bench where they first said "I love you" would be the final stop.
And waiting for them there would be a surprise.
Setting Up the Proposal
Earlier in the day, Josh secretly hid a bag of decorations in a nearby bush for me to collect later.
Inside were candles, rose petals and a framed photograph.
Small details that would transform an ordinary bench into something unforgettable.
Once I arrived, I carefully set everything up while making sure nobody disturbed the surprise.
The candles were placed.
The rose petals scattered.
The frame positioned perfectly.
Then all that was left to do was wait.
The Proposal
As the evening light softened and golden hour arrived, I spotted them walking towards the final stop on their memory walk.
Everything was going exactly to plan.
As they approached the bench, Julia immediately realised something was different.
Then she saw the decorations.
The candles.
The rose petals.
The framed photograph.
And finally, Josh dropping down onto one knee.
The look on her face said everything.
Complete surprise.
Complete happiness.
A moment years in the making.
Standing there watching it unfold felt incredibly special.
This wasn't just a proposal.
It was a proposal built around a memory that already meant the world to them.
And now that same spot would forever hold another unforgettable chapter of their story.
Engagement Photos After the Proposal
After giving them a few moments to soak everything in, we spent some time wandering around Broadway capturing some relaxed engagement photos.
This is one of my favourite parts of every proposal shoot.
The nerves have disappeared.
The secret is out.
And all that's left is excitement.
The joy in these photos was completely genuine because they had just experienced one of the happiest moments of their lives.
No awkward posing.
No pressure.
Just two people completely in love.
Proposal Photography in Broadway, Cotswolds
Every proposal is different.
Some are grand.
Some are simple.
But the best proposals always have meaning.
This one had meaning written all over it.
The same bench where they first said "I love you."
The same village that held so many memories.
The same place that will now forever be remembered as the spot where they got engaged.
I'll never forget this proposal.
And I don't think they will either.
